In short...

  • Be safe
  • Be bold
  • Be excellent
  • Be a good neighbour

Full policy

  • Community
    • This space, first and foremost, belongs to you, the community, to do what you wish (within reason). Have fun, be bold, and make cool stuff happen!
  • Anti-oppression
    • SkullSpace should be a safe place for anyone at all to hang out and participate in.
    • This means having a policy that forbids the following types of behaviors: misogynism, patriarchism, homophobia, classism, racism, etc.
  • Animals
    • For safety reasons, only service animals (seeing eye dogs etc.) are allowed at SkullSpace. It is not a safe place for animals to wander, and we have a number of members who are allergic to them, so we ask that you leave your pets at home when you come to the space.
  • Dangerous / prohibited items
    • Don't bring any dangerous or prohibited items to the space. This includes weapons, drugs, alcohol, and anything else that would make other members nervous to be around for safety reasons.
    • Anything is dangerous if used improperly — please take care in using or demonstrating items of interest, and advise other members (or directors) if you feel they are doing something dangerous.
  • Membership fee
    • Everybody pays membership fees. There are no exceptions.
    • All memberships are $40, and members can optionally do a monthly donation along with their membership fees.
  • Employees
    • SkullSpace does not have any employees. Everyone who does any work on behalf of SkullSpace does so purely on a volunteer basis. This isn't about making money, this is about building a community.
  • CED
  • Open Source
    • SkullSpace should use primarily free and open source software whenever possible.
  • Self-Hosting
    • We should try and host our own services, as a learning experience and to offer the best privacy we can to our members.
  • Privacy
    • We will not publish a list of our members. However, members should feel free to create & participate in opt-in lists.
    • We will not release the financial details of any of our members.
    • We will not release a list of the emails of our members.
    • It should be noted that a dedicated individual could derive information on their own based on mailing list posts, etc.
  • Excellence
    • Members should be excellent to one another. This is in the bylaws.
  • Neighbours
    • Members should respect our neighbours (AssentWorks, Cre8ery, etc.).
  • Members should be familiar with the bylaws and member agreement.
  • Keys
    • Keys are property of SkullSpace.
    • Keys may not be duplicated.
    • Keys must be returned upon request.
    • Keys must not be loaned to others.
  • Safety
    • Members may not make use of tools in the workshop area without permission from the Operations Manager or a member with appropriate training and authority (as authorized by the Operations Manager).
    • Guests may not use the workshop area.
    • Members and guests should be cautious of debris and other hazards (especially during renovations).
  • Security
    • The last person to leave the space is responsible for ensuring that all doors are locked, including the elevator doors.
    • The main door of the building should be left locked, except during the hours that the Cre8ary is open (if it is locked, leave it locked; if it is unlocked, leave it unlocked).
  • Modifications
    • Members are encouraged to "be bold" when it comes to making changes to the space - the space, after all, belongs to everybody.
    • For major changes, or potentially dangerous or disruptive changes, the Operations Manager (or a delegate) should be made aware.
  • Cleaning
    • Clean up after yourself!
    • A weekly cleaning schedule may be implemented if it becomes necessary.
    • Clutter and unclaimed objects may be placed on the Table of Doomed Objects to be disposed of on the third week of every month
  • Adult material
    • Please remember that SkullSpace is essentially a public space. For the benefit of others, please leave your adult material at home
