Revision as of 04:37, 5 October 2011
This is the process for new members:
- The applicant fills out a membership agreement and gives it to the Board Secretary.
- The Board Secretary announces the applicant's name on the mailing list.
- The Board Secretary informs the Board of the name and email address of the applicant.
- A Board member (currently the President) fills out a PAD (pre-authorized debit) agreement as much as possible and emails it to the potential member.
- The applicant brings a void cheque and completed PAD agreement to a meeting.
- A Board member (currently the Vice President) drops off this paperwork at the bank.
- Around the end of the two-week waiting period, a Board member (currently the Treasurer) gives a key to the applicant and records that they have a key.
We tried to make this as simple as possible without missing any vital steps. If the member chooses to pay with cash or cheque instead of a PAD, then instead of the void cheque they can bring cash.
We do not store your banking information at all. We give it to the bank, and they store it.
Minors
This is draft and is still under discussion!
Members under 18 are welcome, with the following restrictions:
- They may not use power tools without the guidance and supervision of a skilled member
- They may not have guests
- They must have a parent come down and talk to a member of the Board and vouch for them
- Parent also needs to sign the membership agreement
- There must be an adult member present when they are at the space
- For that reason, they will not be given a key
- They must be familiar with the Safety policy
Originally, we were against minors being members. But, with these restrictions, people seem less averse.
