SkullSpace.ca uses mailman to manage our lists. Currently, we have two lists:
- announce@: This list is where we post all of our news and events (low traffic)
- discuss@: This list if for discussing/planning/arguing/ranting (high traffic)
Subscribing
To subscribe to a mailing list, send an email to either:
- announce-subscribe@lists.skullspace.ca to subscribe to announce@
- discuss-subscribe@lists.skullspace.ca to subscribe to discuss@
It will respond, asking you to confirm. Simply send a reply to the confirmation email to join.
Alternatively, send an email to either:
- announce-request@lists.skullspace.ca to subscribe to announce@
- discuss-request@lists.skullspace.ca to subscribe to discuss@
With the subject line:
subscribe [password] [digest|nodigest]
Obviously, you shouldn't use a secure password for this, since it's being sent through email.
Posting
To post to the discussion list, provided you're subscribed, email either:
- announce@lists.skullspace.ca to send a message to announce@
- discuss@lists.skullspace.ca to send a message to discuss@
If you're not sure which to send to, send to discuss. If someone thinks it warrants posting to announce I'm sure they'll bug you to post it to announce.
Unsubscribing
To unsubscribe, send an email to either:
- announce-request@lists.skullspace.ca to unsubscribe from announce@
- discuss-request@lists.skullspace.ca to unsubscribe from discuss@
With the subject "unsubscribe"
Other commands
All commands are sent to announce-request@lists.skullspace.ca or discuss-request@lists.skullspace.ca with the command and arguments in the email body. Multiple commands can be sent, provided they're set one per line. The following commands can be used:
Message Body | Notes |
---|---|
help | Returns a list of commands and how to use them |
info | Get info about the mailing list |
password [<old password> <new password>] | Retrieve or change your password. |
subscribe [password] [digest|nodigest] | Subscribe to the list. Optionally set a password and digest/no digest mode. |
unsubscribe [password] | Unsubscribe from the list. If no password is given, emails for confirmation. |
Set
Finally, the 'set' command can change a variety of settings. To use set, like the other commands, email announce-request@lists.skullspace.ca or discuss-request@lists.skullspace.ca with the 'set' command in its body. Unlike other commands, however, set requires you to authenticate:
set authenticate <password> set <option1> <value1> set <option2> <value2> ...
If you don't know your password, email announce-request@lists.skullspace.ca or discuss-request@lists.skullspace.ca with the body 'password' and it'll be sent to you.
Here are the valid set options. Email these, as described above. For more information on these commands, email announce-request@lists.skullspace.ca or discuss-request@lists.skullspace.ca with the body 'set help'.
